What is PGDM?

PGDM stands for “Post Graduate Diploma in Management.” In technical terms, it is a specialised, postgraduate-level, professional qualification programme in management and business administration.

The full form of PGDM creates a lot of confusion among the students as it is a diploma course. All we can see is that you should not be worried that PGDM is not a degree course, as only universities can hand out degrees and not private business schools, but we can assure you that this won’t have any impact on the recruitment process.

The next common question is why PGDM over MBA, as both of them are courses related to business and management. Well, PGDM covers everything MBA covers, but MBA does not cover everything that PGDM does. PGDM is a more practical-based course where the curriculum changes constantly so that students are always aware of the latest knowledge. Just for comparison, MBA programs have been using the same curriculum between 1989 and 2014, while we at Thakur Global Business School change our curriculum annually so that students are aware of the latest developments. Our PGDM course list includes Finance, Marketing, HR, and Operations.

Advantages of studying PGDM

1. Industry knowledge

One of the most crucial advantages of a PGDM course is the amount of practical knowledge it provides the student. We have mentioned above how their curriculum changes annually, and having practical knowledge about the latest trends makes students ready for the real world.

Along with technical knowledge, PGDM courses also focus on soft skills and communication skills, which are extremely essential during the interview process and then to effectively communicate with your colleagues.

2. Networking Opportunities

As PGDM is a balance of theory and practical information, institutes conduct many guest lectures and seminars for students. These events are a good opportunity for students to meet industry experts and communicate with them. Networking can not only help you gain knowledge in your field but can also help you find internships and jobs in the future.

For example, if an industry expert from a reputed organisation comes for guest lectures, you must ensure to at least ask a few questions. If they are impressed, they may refer you to their organisation.

If you are interested in learning how you can easily network with people, you must definitely read this blog on ‘How to Network the Right Way’ by Forbes.

3. Internships and Projects

Internships and projects play an important role in a PGDM degree because they are crucial components of experiential learning. These hands-on experiences bridge the theoretical and practical divides, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in real-world circumstances. Internships expose students to industry dynamics, professional networks, and the opportunity to obtain insights into their chosen disciplines. Projects, on the other hand, which can range from corporate consultancy to research assignments, promote critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. 4. Better Job Opportunities

Management is an evergreen field. Here, human knowledge and judgement are more important than AI tools; therefore, there are plenty of job opportunities for students studying PGDM. As students already have a lot of practical knowledge, they are ready to face the real world.

PGDM students also usually get high-paying jobs because of their curriculum and the industry exposure they gain in their two-year journey.

At TGBS, top companies visit our campus for interviews. Being a PGDM course in Mumbai helps, as the city has ample PGDM course job opportunities for students of all specialisations.

Here we can also add a testimonial from an alumni if we can get one from them.

5. Entrepreneur skills

India has seen a rise in startup culture, and the Indian government is doing everything it can so that startups can sustain and grow. PGDM courses make students capable of both working as employees and employers. The course is designed to make sure that the students are well trained to become future entrepreneurs. The course teaches you entrepreneurship skills like leadership and how to write business plans.

At TGBS, we conduct guest lectures that can help students inculcate entrepreneurship skills. ‘Startup Environment in India’ and ‘Good to Great: Best Practices to Start Early for Future Leaders’ were two of the best lectures that helped us plant a seed of entrepreneurship in our students’ minds. You can visit our website to check out our curriculum, faculty members, and events.

Conclusion

The benefits of earning a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) are extensive and far-reaching. This educational path provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in the fast-paced world of business and management. The benefits extend far beyond the classroom, providing a springboard to a bright career, increased earning potential, and the possibility to take on leadership roles. PGDM programmes promote personal and professional development by equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to overcome difficult issues and make sound decisions.
