How PGDM Courses Are Shaping Young Entrepreneurs

How PGDM Courses Are Shaping Young Entrepreneurs

If you are planning to be an entrepreneur, here is what you need to know: It’s tough, it’s uncertain, and it’s full of risk. If you still want to be an entrepreneur, you are courageous, and you have come to the right place.

Although not essential, having a particular diploma or degree to start a business is preferred. For instance, if you have a degree in finance and start a fintech start up, there is a chance client will prefer you over some fintech company that is owned by an individual without an educational background in finance.

PGDM is one such course that is highly beneficial for a student or an individual who wants to start their own business. In this blog, we will talk about how PGDM courses can help students hone skills that are important for becoming successful entrepreneurs or start up founders.

The Landscape of Start-ups in India

The start-up culture in India is also very diverse, with new businesses starting in fintech, e-commerce, healthcare, agritech, and other sectors. The government of India is also trying its best and introducing new policies that promote the start-up landscape.

The start-up culture in India is on the rise. In fact, as of October 3, 2023, India has 1,12,718 start-ups, making us the 3rd largest start up ecosystem. A report by Nasscom showed that India’s start up economy is expected to create 12.5 lakh job opportunities by 2025. These numbers are an awesome view for a PGDM student, as they can choose to either start their own business or take advantage of 12.5 lakh job opportunities created by start-ups.

Now that we have a basic idea about the start-up landscape in India, let’s look at why PGDM is the right course to create and develop future entrepreneurs.

Skills Taught in PGDM Courses

1. Development of Entrepreneurial Skills

PGDM courses frequently feature entrepreneurship-focused modules or specializations, which aid in the development of skills necessary for entrepreneurs to launch and manage their own companies. Topics like business analysis, organisational behaviour, and digital business transformation are also taught during the two-year program to help students understand how modern businesses work.

2. Business Planning and Strategy

Strategic management and business planning, which are crucial elements for anyone wishing to launch and expand a firm, are often covered in PGDM programmes. Long-term success techniques, goal-setting, and business plan creation are among the skills taught to students. Final-year projects can help with planning and strategy. During your project, students need to plan in advance and be ready for every challenge. The challenges that they face during the project can prepare them for the challenges they may face when running their own business.

3. Networking Opportunities

Students can typically make connections with industry professionals, alumni, and possible mentors through PGDM courses. Establishing a robust network is crucial for entrepreneurs who could want mentorship, assistance, or collaborations.

Institutes that provide the PGDM course frequently organise lectures by industry experts; conversing with them can be very important for you as they can help you get practical knowledge and internships. The expert can also help you navigate the start-up landscape using their experience.

4. Financial Management

We don’t think it is necessary for us to tell you the importance of financial management for a business. For start-ups, the importance is even greater. Start-ups don’t have much finance and have to manage their expenses carefully. Students in the PGDM curriculum learn skills such as financial management, financial statement analysis, and strategic financial decision-making.

These topics help students understand how to manage money and make better financial decisions. These are the things that they will definitely need when running their own business.

5. Sales and Marketing Proficiency

As an entrepreneur, your main objective will be to sell your services, products, and customers. You may think your product is strong enough to get you sales, but there will always be similar products and services on the market, meaning the most important part is finding or developing unique marketing and advertising strategies to promote your product or services.

PGDM courses teach marketing strategies that top marketing agencies use so that students are aware of the latest trends and marketing tools. Entrepreneurs need to know about customer behaviour, market analysis, and marketing and sales tactics, all of which are covered in PGDM programmes.

6. Improved Soft Skills

The PGDM course focuses a lot on improving soft skills. Even before admissions, students have to clear group discussions and interviews, which require them to improve their soft skills. After admissions, institutes help students take their skills to the next level by conducting workshops and guest lectures like ‘Communicating our way to success’ and ‘Communicate to influence’.

Skills like critical thinking, communication skills, decision-making, problem solving, and time management can be your greatest weapons when fighting against challenging situations.
